Voluntary Contribution
An Open Letter to the Membership of
The Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE
The Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE
Dear fellow members of SEI,
Thank you for considering a voluntary contribution to SEI over and above your dues to ASCE. SEI receives income from a variety of different sources - publication sales, conference revenue, continuing education courses, and a portion of your ASCE dues - but when added together, SEI's income isn't quite sufficient to fund all of the activities we undertake such as
- Separate licensing for structural engineers
- Professional development delivered through local organizations
- Improving the public image of structural engineers
- Creating on-line technical guidance and examples
- Promoting structural engineering as a career path
- Encouraging more practice-oriented curriculum at universities
- Engaging and educating students about SEI
The SEI Board of Governors suggests an amount of $30 for your voluntary contribution; however, any amount would be greatly appreciated. Last year, nearly 25% of SEI members made voluntary contributions which helped SEI tremendously - this year, we're hoping to see an even higher percentage! The SEI Voluntary Contribution line item in the hard copy of your ASCE Renewal Statement is in Step 1 if you made a contribution last year or in Step 2 if you did not; if you choose to renew online, you will find it at the ASCE Institutes Renewal page.
SEI is a volunteer-driven organization and our success in serving the profession depends on contributions from its members. So please help us in our efforts to help the profession by renewing your membership and making a voluntary contribution. Thank you for your consideration and support.
Regards,
Barry Goodno, PhD, P.E.
President, SEI
