6th National Seismic Conference on Bridge and Highways Sixth National Seismic Conference on Bridges & Highways
Charleston, South Carolina
July 27-30, 2008

This sixth in a series of biennial workshops will emphasize “Seismic Technologies for Extreme Loads” as its theme. The conference objective is to increase awareness of natural hazards and to enhance the technical expertise of engineering professionals so they can have the latest tools to mitigate the risk of damage to the highway infrastructure. The key organizers are the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and MCEER, University at Buffalo. The focus will continue to be on earthquakes but the technical program will also include discussions on hurricanes, flooding, and other hazards to explore how seismic experience and completed research might be applied to these concerns.

On the last day of the conference, there will an optional technical tour of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge over the Cooper River. The bridge, which links Charleston with Mount Pleasant, is the longest cable-stay span in the northern hemisphere. It opened in 2005 with many state-of-the art features and a cutting-edge design built to enable the bridge to be back in service within hours following an earthquake.

International Orthotropic Bridge Conference2008 International Orthotropic Bridge Conference
Sacramento, California
August 25-29, 2008

The 2nd International Orthotropic Bridge Conference will take place from Monday, 25 August 2008 until Friday, 29 August 2008 in sunny Sacramento, California, USA. As with the 2004 conference, it is designed to be a forum for the exchange of knowledge of all aspects of orthotropic design. Clients, designers, researchers, and maintenance investigators will find unique opportunity to sample the full spectrum of issues regarding the orthotropic configuration. From wearing surfaces to fatigue to channel design to design specifications, the orthotropic bridge is experiencing a new renaissance. As its uses are explored, new discoveries and designs are influencing the range of ways in which the design is used.

Presenters from around the world will have an opportunity to exchange their ideas. Disparate research from various design philosophies often dovetail with those form other regions. This conference offers the opportunity to increase awareness of the current state of the orthotropic technology.

Sponsors supporting this event are the backbone and the foundation of a successful conference. Therefore we provide our sponsors with as much opportunity for outreach and networking as possible. We have a two tiered sponsorship level endeavor to grant a generous and fair benefits package to our conference supporters.

Exhibitors in conferences have become partners in the delivery of relevant product and industry information to the conference attendees. Therefore, OBC has placed the exhibitor area immediately adjacent to the meeting rooms and will offer raffles and other incentives provided by exhibitors to the attendees at breaks to encourage visitorship.

Important Dates:
July 21, 2008 - Full-length Paper Submission
